Google cardboard works by inserting your smart phone into this inexpensive device ($16 from Kmart, yes, in Rockhampton) and it immediately turns it into a virtual reality experience.

Google has developed applications specifically for this virtual reality experience and every day, developers are adding to the list.  Even though it is still in its infancy, this device is already being used in classrooms for maths projects and as a pre-service teacher in the specialised field of Media Studies I can see immense value in this device in aiding 3D development in class.

The links in the paragraph above will lead you to examples on the items discussed, however here is a link to discover more applications , educational, and just for fun, that you might find better suit your teaching area.

Google Cardboard to Google Expeditions Pioneer Program

I am now following Silvia Duckworth on Twitter. According to her bio she is a French Teacher and a Google Certified Innovator.  Because I am following her, her tweets led me to Google for Education on Twitter and from there, to their amazing innovation – Google Expeditions Pioneer Program.

Using Google Cardboard, the Expeditions Pioneer program is proving to be an amazing experience for students around the globe.  The Google Cardboard device and the apps are available in Australia, however the Expedition program is not – YET…
…but imagine the possibilities once it is.  Have a look for yourself.
